It's been nearly 20 years since the infamous Vincenza Massacre struck New Orleans, leaving over 50 people dead and countless injured. Since 1903, police and Louisiana officials still work to investigate the full depths that this case goes. What they have uncovered since then has resulted in a shocking web of drugs, crime, and strangest of all-romance.
Let's recap: On August, 27th, 1903, about 10 men in masks wandered calmly down Burboun Street in New Orleans, on what promised to be a peaceful Thursday afternoon. Out of nowhere, the men pulled out their guns and opened fire at everyone in sight. They marched down the street and slaughtered everyone they saw: Man, woman, and child, respectable and poor. Even after police responded with fire of their own, it was already too late. The streets were coated red with blood and even to this day the street has yet to recover in population or in reputation. By the end of the week, the gunfire finally died down and the citizens of New Orleans finally had a chance to mourn.
"I lost almost everyone in my family," Gloria Sawyer recounted at the 10-year anniversary in 1913. "My brother...My dad...My mom...All that's left is my child, he was hidden in the bakery basket before the gang could reach us. I...I'm so glad God saved at least him," Gloria expressed as she wiped a tear from her face. She was one of few survivors who was brave enough to tell the tale. Gloria has since moved into New York City and married a man who could protect her and her child.
Despite the consistant witness reports and mountains of evidence, officials have only managed to arrest 3 of the 10 men responsible. Most of the perpetraters were foreign aliens who came from families who were not able to fit into American society. These were sons and daughters of adultery, theives, murderers, and hot-tempered people who chose not to fit in properly with the rest of society. Most were not even raised Christian or practiced the Good Faith. As of today, police say they have yet to find the three leaders: A pale Polish man nicknamed The "Wąż", and Mr. Flavio Vincenza himself. Vincenza's gang is an extensive gang that only recently officers have found the depths the gang goes crime-wise. The Vincenza gang was found to be involved with drug trafficking, distributing moonshine, prostutition, and potential human trafficking. They moved around the United States and Mexico frequently, but their main hub of operation seemed to be New Orleans.
An ex member of the gang, a polish man named Casper, was quintessential in exposing the inner workings of the case. He now serves as bounty hunter, but his input has boosted the investigation tremendously. He revealed to policemen that Flavio was doing this all to "prove a point" to one Riviera Rosetti, an ex-lover who fled from Flavio due to potentially abusive behavior during the relationship.
"I'm telling you, all that man gave a crap about was whether she knew he was by her. And honestly? He was a piece of garbage to her, I don't get why he doesn't understand that," Casper explained to officials.
